As we enter storm season, it’s important for homeowners to know how they can properly take care of their investment. A home needs upkeep and routine inspections to make sure your family stays safe, and maintaining your exterior is a big part of that. We put together some signs to look out for this summer to make sure you know when your roof, siding, and gutters need repair.

When you see hail damage…

If you see hail in the forecast or hear it on your roof, then you should assess your roof after the storm. Hail damage can be hard to see from the ground, however, because it can cause smaller, precise injury to the integrity of your roof. If a significant hailstorm passed through, then the shingles, siding, and gutters have a higher chance of sustaining damage. An expert would be able to tell better.

When you see wind damage…

Many severe storms can have strong winds that can be just as damaging to your property. The damage can be visible from the ground in missing shingles, fallen debris, cracked siding, etc. Other times, the wind can crease the shingles and make your roof susceptible to leaks. Those are harder to spot from the ground, so you want a professional to make sure it’s still holding up.

When you see fallen debris…

Another side effect of strong winds is fallen branches or fallen trees. Even if you don’t see branches on the roof, they could have still damaged or penetrated the shingles. Try to spot debris on the ground or on your neighbor’s roof. If they have damage, there’s a good chance that your roof might have it too.

When there’s heavy rains…

If there’s already damage to your roof that you haven’t noticed, then heavy rains might reveal leaks in your shingles. Watch out for water damage in your attic or on your ceiling if the water gathers. Assess your attic to see if you can try to prevent the water from causing damage to any more of your interior and then call a restoration expert to inspect your roof.
